The search operations in the area are continuing for a third consecutive day.

Rescue teams are looking for a 74-year-old mountaineer who has been missing since Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, today’s conditions are more favorable, raising cautious optimism that there may be a positive outcome.

The clear and sunny weather in the area offers better visibility, allowing access to hard-to-reach parts of the mountain. Drones operated by the Fire Service, as well as by private individuals, are conducting aerial sweeps over the steep terrain, searching for any trace of the missing climber.

Ground rescue teams are moving toward the High Peak, the point where the 74-year-old was last seen. Teams say they are optimistic, estimating that “the increased visibility combined with the sunshine will help the snow settle and reveal possible signs that could lead to his location.”

Relatives, friends, and acquaintances of the missing describe the man as an experienced mountaineer, with extensive activity and numerous ascents both in Greece and abroad.

The operation involves 25 firefighters from Karpenisi, special units from the 7th, 1st, and 8th EMAK (Special Disaster Response Units), as well as a drone unit.
