BOSTON – The Greek-American community of Boston and New England will celebrate Greece’s national holiday of March 25, commemorating the Greek Revolution of 1821 that led to Greece’s liberation from Ottoman rule.
The celebration will take place on Sunday, March 22, at 3:00 p.m. at the Consulate General of Greece in Boston, located at 86 Beacon Street, Boston, across from the Boston Public Garden.
The event is organized by the Consul General of Greece in Boston, Ambassador Symeon Tegos, who invites the Greek-American community to attend. Admission is free, and a reception will follow in the halls of the Consulate.
His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston will be present and will offer the prayer and deliver greetings. Students from the Greek Schools of the communities of the Metropolis of Boston will participate with recitations of poems and patriotic songs. Clergy, presidents and members of community councils, academics, business leaders and Greek-Americans from all walks of life in Boston and throughout New England are also expected to attend.
Consul General Symeon Tegos will present commemorative tokens to the students in honor of the nation’s dual celebration—both national and religious. The observance of Greece’s national rebirth is intertwined with the Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos, which marks the beginning of the salvation of the human race through the mystery of the Incarnation of God.
