Boys and Girls Club opens new teen center in Rochester with gaming, computers and study space

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Boys and Girls Club held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday for its brand new teen center. It’s a place for teens to come after school and learn, play and hang out, featuring gaming consoles, high-end computers and plenty of study space.

Club leaders say it’s important for Rochester’s teens to have a safe place they want to go to.

“That’s the thing is there are not enough safe spaces,” said Dwayne Mahoney, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Rochester.

“This was really based on youth voice and what they wanted in a teen center,” Mahoney said.

“We want more and more teens to say this is where I’m going after school and this is where I get help,” Mahoney added..

The Boys and Girls Club and its revamped teen center are open on weekdays from 2:30 to 7 p.m.
