There’s a lot of commentary in the world right now about the actions and decision-making of the police. That subject is one of the many topics breached in the new-age found footage horror film, Bodycam. Let’s examine this movie and see what the footage reveals to us.

As this unlikely cop duo gets called in to control a domestic dispute, what they find in Bodycam is far more disturbing. This isn’t the average brawl for the boys in blue, and one of their decisions sets off a chain of demonic events and fever dream hauntings that doesn’t allow the viewer to trust what they see. The bodycams that the officers wear serve as a device for a unique take on a found footage film as they uncover a lot more than they bargained for about this small town.
While Bodycam never quite takes a clear stance on what exactly it’s trying to say, it does successfully work in a lot of important themes. It’s a mortality tale, a lesson in judgement, a look at the class system, a commentary on drug culture, and a found footage cult film, all in one. That creates a conundrum of a crowded catharsis, but the jump scares and tension along the way are well handled and offer a lot of fun to be had.

The Christensen team has amassed quite a few impressive hits lately, and Bodycam will be streaming on Shudder as of March 13th.
