PROSPECT HEIGHTS — IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH, the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office is hosting “The Green Thread: Women Weaving Justice with Sustainable Fashion,” in partnership with Brooklyn Public Library’s Business & Career Center and Con Edison.
The community event, taking place Monday, March 23 from 6-8 p.m. at BPL Central Library, shines a spotlight on women leaders who are driving change in sustainability, environmental law, and ethical fashion. Attorney Christine Appah will open the evening by laying the groundwork for understanding sustainability and environmental law within the fashion industry.
Through a panel featuring Hakema Hepa (Black Girls Sew), Camille Tagle(FABSCRAP Co-Founder) and Christine Appah, adjunct professor of law and climate, attendees will hear how policy, design, and community initiatives intersect from a legislative and legal framework.
The event concludes with a fashion showcase highlighting inventive vintage and upcycled looks from panelists, LevelUP Leaders, and designers including Hakema Hepa, Ula and Kuba, and Brooklyn Fashion Academy alumni. All attendees are encouraged to wear upcycled or vintage clothes. BPL Central Library is located at 10 Grand Army Plaza.
