A new entry-level certification for showcasing commitment to responsible gaming has been made available to US lotteries.

The project, worked on by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), is aimed at broadening participation and recognising “foundational commitments” to responsible gambling.
The NCPG, which recently welcomed the introduction of the POINTS Act to address gambling harm across the US, said the Level 1 Responsible Gambling Framework Entry Certification: Commitment Level certification will provide lotteries with an “accessible pathway” to formal recognition.
It added the certification will reinforce “industry-wide engagement in responsible gambling awareness efforts.”
Requirements for certification
To achieve the new certification, lotteries must show “verified” participation in the NCPG-organised Problem Gambling Awareness Month in March and the Gift Responsibly Campaign in November and December.
Lotteries must also submit a “formal declaration or proclamation” from a governor, premier or lottery director affirming support for responsible gambling initiatives.
‘Continuous improvement’
“Strengthening and expanding the RGF Program reflects a shared commitment to continuous improvement across the lottery industry,” said Heather L. Maurer, executive director of the NCPG.
“By introducing a more accessible entry point and enhancing the certification process, we are supporting lotteries in building meaningful, measurable responsible gambling practices that reinforce public trust.”
‘Clear, measurable standards’
NASPL president Brian Rockey added: “Responsible gambling is central to the credibility and long-term sustainability of our industry.
“These enhancements to the RGF Certification Program reinforce NASPL’s commitment to setting clear, measurable standards while making participation more accessible for lotteries at every stage of their responsible gambling journey.”
