After conquering crypto, Ripple Labs wants to take on traditional finance

Ripple Labs has become one of the world's largest cryptocurrency companies, but executives aren't stopping there, CEO Brad Garlinghouse told CNBC. Over the past year, the firm has ramped up efforts to bridge the Web3 world and an industry that has long been viewed as its foil — traditional finance. In an interview with CNBC's "Crypto World" at the Ripple Swell 2025 conference in New York, Garlinghouse said his firm aims to offer a wide range of traditional financial services built on blockchain infrastructure, capitalizing on growing institutional adoption of digital assets.A blockchain is a decentralized digital ledger that logs transactions across a network of computers."I want to see Ripple invest in [the] future and get ahead of where that market's going," Garlinghouse said Tuesday. Ancient roots, modern vision can build India’s financial sector

India has a rich history of financial innovation, dating back to the 4th–6th century CE when Guilds (Shrenis) of merchants and artisans pooled resources, shared risks, and financed large ventures, much like today’s investment trusts. As India seeks to become a high-income economy by 2047, it needs to build on this past to create a dynamic, inclusive and resilient financial system that can help raise the investment-to-GDP ratio from the current 33.5 to 40 percent, promoting economic growth and large-scale job creation. Challenges and opportunities Over the past few years, India’s financial assets have grown to nearly 190 percent of GDP, with non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) and capital markets providing almost half of private sector credit. This shift away from traditional banking is...

How big is the net zero finance gap?

The amount of money needed to deliver net zero still exceeds annual spending on emissions reductions, but achieving the required investment appears tantalizingly within reach. CPI’s third annual study with international law firm A&O Shearman, ‘How big is the net zero financing gap?’, analyzes the differential between committed climate finance and the capital needed to decarbonize the global economy by 2050. Building on data from CPI’s Global Landscape of Climate Finance, the study reinforces that if the current trajectory of climate investment (26% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2020 and 2023) is sustained in the coming years, annual climate finance flows could approach USD6.2 trillion by 2029, the lower bound of estimated needs for the period 2024 to 2030. Data vis...

How Private Credit Fills The Financing Gap For Corporates?

How does private credit meet various financing needs for companies that often can’t access the syndicated loan market? Corporate borrowers, especially middle-market firms, have increasingly relied on private credit from private equity firms in recent years. Most of this takes the form of so-called direct lending, senior secured commercial loans used mainly to finance working capital or growth. This trend reflects the growing retreat of banks from the broadly syndicated loan (BSL) market.  About 10% of all small and medium-sized firms in advanced economies and over 20% in emerging market economies report being credit constrained, often due to a lack of collateral, according to researchers at the Basel, Switzerland-based Bank for International Settlements. Not surprisingly, Fitch Ratings ...

GCA Launches Stories of Resilience at COP30, Calling for a Breakthrough in Climate Adaptation Finance B elém, Brazil, 11 November 2025 — The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) today launched its flagship publication Stories of Resilience: Lessons from Local Adaptation Practice at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), calling for a step-change in global efforts to finance and scale locally led adaptation. The report showcases powerful evidence from Africa and Asia that locally led adaptation (LLA) delivers faster, fairer, and more sustainable results when communities are in charge of defining priorities, shaping investments, and managing risk. Kia’s (000270.KS) most important vehicle just received a big, bold refresh. Kia showed off the latest version of its top-selling full-size SUV, the 2027 Telluride. The three-row SUV maintains its Range Rover-ish looks, but with a more chiseled design, featuring a massive, almost full-face grill with integrated lighting. The vehicle is also a surprising 2.3 inches longer than its predecessor, a big change for most vehicles, with an even more stretched wheelbase for extra legroom. The 2027 Kia Telluride in X-Pro trim. · Kia "With Telluride, it was a matter of being tailored and restrained — dare I say, anti-design," said Kia chief designer Tom Kearns in a statement. "With that approach, it was about capturing strength and luxury, tradition and modernness, into a single expression. ...
