Building a $1M Gaming Infrastructure Company

As reported by Deconstructor of Fun, Heroic Labs’ origins do not mirror the typical startup path familiar across the gaming industry. Instead of rapid fundraising rounds or early exits, the company formed around three backend engineers who focused on solving technical challenges for game studios. Their journey reflects a long-term approach shaped by necessity, consistency, and an understanding of how game infrastructure must perform under global demand.Early Pressure and the YC Turning PointWhen the founders entered Y Combinator, they carried a product still in its early form and little more than their engineering experience from London FinTech. The program environment demanded immediate iteration and daily discipline, pushing the team into long hours of development and refining their pitc...

I’m Pumped For The Family Stone Sequel. There’s One Thing I’d Love To See (And One Issue That Worries Me)

Spoiler alert! This story will reveal spoilers about the 2005 movie The Family Stone, which is available to stream with a Prime Video subscription or Hulu subscription.Families coming together for the holidays make for such a good starting off point for so many stories — including several on the 2025 Christmas movie schedule — especially if there’s a twist involved, like introducing your partner to your family. The 2005 flick The Family Stone offered a brilliantly heightened look into such a situation, and I was so excited to find out a sequel is in the works. To that end, there is one thing I’d love from The Family Stone 2, but also, I have a big concern. The Family Stone featured an ensemble cast of impressive names like Sarah Jessica Parker, Craig T. Nelson, Claire Danes and, of course, ...

Kevin Jonas on future solo music & acting alongside Nick and Joe

Nick, Kevin and Joe Jonas attend the New York premiere of ‘A Very Jonas Christmas Movie’ (Disney/Jose Alvarado) Kevin Jonas fears telling his brothers he wants to sing lead in A Very Jonas Christmas Movie, but in real life, he he recently released his first solo single, “Changing.” That, however, doesn’t mean an album is the next step. Speaking to Billboard‘s Pop Shop podcast, Kevin says he’s been “recording more music.” However, since he’s an independent artist, he can “do kind of whatever I want, so I don’t have to follow specific rules” regarding releases. “I don’t know if an album’s in the works. Maybe an EP, maybe just a collection of some music that I like over the course of the year,” he adds. “I really don’t have exact plans. I know the next song I want to release, but as of right...

2025’s biggest movies are family-friendly PG flicks and R-rated horrors

As we step further into holiday season, the all-too-familiar argument of which movie to watch with miscellaneous relatives — young, old, sometimes conflicting — will once again rear its head. This festive period, it’s likely that the kids will get their way, given PG movies comprise many of 2025’s biggest hits; though it’s not as probable that they’ll be allowed to stay up while the rest of the family settles in for one of several box office-topping horror films from this year.Genre-straddlingWe’re in the midst of a golden era for the family-friendly flick, as detailed in a WSJ piece last week. Indeed, the incredible success of PG-rated films like “Lilo & Stitch” and “A Minecraft Movie” in recent months could likely be matched, or even bested, by new “Wicked” and “Zootopia” installments...

Gizmodo Consumer Tech Reporter Kyle Barr’s 9 Favorite Board Games for People Who Need a Break From Tech

All of my 2025 was consumed by consumer tech. Gizmodo’s consumer tech team and I reviewed so many products and spent so much time traveling for various gadget-filled conferences our brains are stenciled with images of the latest hardware. I needed a break from technology. I think you do, too. Today’s amalgamations of books, wood, and cardboard are ingenious—even if you’re forced to play them digitally. The board games and role-playing games I’ve played this past year may offer a richer experience than any AAA video game demanding your attention. I spent three days at this year’s PAX Unplugged convention trying as many games as I could. I have such rare time for board games and even less opportunity to sit down for a TTRPG (tabletop role-playing game) session with just my friends and me. Ho...

Robert Kyncl, CEO, WMG, said: “This landmark pact with Suno is a victory for the creative community that benefits everyone. I tried gaming on a non-gaming laptop, and this was my experience

Some people prefer to do things exactly as they were intended. Some people, however, enjoy taking risks and experimenting with anything they can get their hands on. I, very firmly belonging to the second category, decided to do something different last weekend. I tried running three heavy games on a laptop that was never meant for gaming. Not a chunky, RGB-loaded machine. Not something built to dissipate heat like a wind tunnel. Just the Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 sitting quietly on my desk, minding its own business, unaware that it was about to become the star of a very questionable idea. What followed was a mix of surprise, panic, fan noise, unexpected victories and a laptop that tried harder than any non-gaming laptop ever should. Survey ✅ Thank you for completing the survey!
