Songwriting Legend Todd Snider Has Died

This story is developing. The world has lost a light, and of the most unique, interesting, compelling, challenging, mercurial, iconoclastic, and influential songwriters to ever ply the craft. Todd Snider wasn’t just a singer of songs and a storyteller. He was a dynamo of insight and entertainment, often unable to be contained in the conventional vessels of an upright society, or the human form. He was more than an “Alright Guy,” he was the voice and conscience for a generation of alt listeners and general misfits. On Friday afternoon (11-14), a message went out Todd Snider’s fans saying that after he returned home from Salt Lake City where his most recent tour ended in disaster, he began having trouble breathing and was admitted to the hospital in Hendersonville, TN, near Nashville. “We le...

Epic-Microsoft Pact Reshapes Gaming Ecosystems

In a move that signals deepening ties between Epic Games and Microsoft, Fortnite is set to launch on the Xbox app for PC on November 18, 2025, becoming an Xbox Play Anywhere title. This development allows seamless cross-progression between PC and Xbox consoles, marking a significant shift in how players access one of the world’s most popular games without relying solely on the Epic Games Launcher. The integration includes Fortnite Crew perks for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, bundling in monthly V-Bucks, Battle Pass access, and exclusive cosmetics at no extra cost. According to Xbox Wire, this is ‘just the beginning of Xbox and Epic’s work together toward an open gaming ecosystem.’ A Strategic Alliance Takes Shape Epic Games, long at odds with platform holders over app store policies...

Rockstar Co-Founder’s Comments on GTA Don’t Make Sense

The co-founder and former lead writer of Rockstar has a firm belief about how Grand Theft Auto games should work, but I think he’s mistaken about a key element of the franchise. Since 1997, GTA has been a major bedrock in mainstream gaming. Beyond two spin-offs tied to the original release, however, the entire series has been very rooted in the American culture and experience. This is very purposeful on the part of Rockstar Games, with one of the founders of the studio explaining as much during a recent interview. He even suggests that a full GTA experience only works in America. However, I’d argue it only speaks to the unrealized potential of the series, and that a more global approach to Grand Theft Auto could open the door to plenty of new directions for the long-running franchise....

First Look at Legend of Zelda Movie Reveals Link & Zelda’s Live-Action Costumes (& They’re Perfect)

Nintendo is having one hell of a week. The biggest bombshell from the video game company came in the form of the first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie, which will see the return of not only the titular duo but Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, and more. New faces are also joining the fray, such as Bowser Jr., voiced by Oppenheimer star Benny Safdie, and Princess Rosalina, who will be played by Marvel Cinematic Universe actor and Nintendo superfan Brie Larson. Mario and Co. are about to take a backseat, though, because another Nintendo production is shaking the Internet to its core. Out in the woods of New Zealand, the crew of The Legend of Zelda movie from Nintendo and Sony Pictures is hard at work trying to bring the kingdom of Hyrule to life. Filming outside is sure to gi...

How to find music you will love without the algorithm

While there is plenty of criticism to be hurled at what music the algorithm serves to us, and how, the real problem with music discovery in the age of algorithmic recommendations is that listening has become a passive activity. It’s too easy to press play and let a pile of code take the wheel. Whether that’s creating a “station” based on a particular song or artist, firing up Discover Weekly, or just letting Apple Music autoplay into infinity after a particular album or song ends. With less involvement from the listener, less intentionality, it’s easy for music to simply become background noise. Research suggests that younger generations are discovering new artists at a lower rate than previous ones, and there’s a direct correlation between lower levels of music discovery and reliance on th...

Obsidian Entertainment rejects generative AI in games

While mandates of generative AI continue to creep into facets of the gaming industry, Xbox Game Studios' role-playing game (RPG) developer, Obsidian Entertainment, is not one of the teams that seemingly plans to embrace it.Speaking in an interview with GameFile, Obsidian Entertainment's Josh Sawyer, Kate Dollarhyde, and Leonard Boyarsky discussed the process of writing several major games across the studio's history and how their experience has changed over time.As part of the conversation, Boyarsky mentioned his comments from a 2019 podcast where he speculated about AI-powered writing. Boyarsky noted that he was now tempted to smack his prior self "upside the head" and that any such concept would quickly get "very unwieldy."When asked whether or not Obsidian Entertainment is using generat...

Kiefer Sutherland’s ’80s Classic That Reinvented the Vampire Movie Is a Free Streaming Hit

As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event this past week, we debuted a brand-new image from one of the most enticing upcoming Christmas movies, Tinsel Town. A British festive comedy with all the trimmings, perhaps the most notable aspect of the film is the inclusion of the ever-brilliant Kiefer Sutherland as washed-up action star Bradley Mack. Whether it's the hilarious or the gritty, Sutherland delivers electric performances time after time, with it now 40 years since he first gained recognition from wider audiences for his role in The Bay Boy. However, it was the following two years that would cement the son of Donald as one to watch, with stellar turns first in 1986's Stand By Me and then in 1987's The Lost Boys, with the latter still proving popular to this day. At the time of w...

Hi-Fi Rush’s Soundtrack Is Back On Spotify, Apple Music, And YouTube

Hi-Fi Rush's incredible original soundtrack has started popping back up on major music streaming services, including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. Despite being one of the best games of all time (no bias there, I swear), Hi-Fi Rush has been through the absolute wringer ever since it released. After winning the hearts of minds of pretty much everyone, Tango Gameworks was shut down by Xbox out of nowhere, leaving it to be picked up by the now AI-focused Krafton. All of that has already been tough to watch for someone who just wants to see Chai get an encore, but things looked even scarier last week when the soundtrack disappeared with no warning from major streaming services. Hi-Fi Rush's use of licensed songs and lack of a physical release had us all scared, but it seems th...
