Experimental post-rockers Tortoise return to Chicago stage after releasing first new album in nine years

For decades, the instrumental band Tortoise was the face of the genre known as “post rock.” The catch-all term emerged in the late 1990s to describe music that existed in the gaps between rock and jazz and between compositional music and straightforward improvisation. Stellar Blade Has Inspired The Korean Gaming Industry, Says Ex-PlayStation Head

Stellar Blade was a major hit for developer Shift Up and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), and development on a sequel is already underway. Shift Up is based in South Korea, a region that's quickly becoming a game development hub. However, Korean developers have mostly avoided the console market in the past because the PC is by far the most dominant platform in the country. The reasons for South Korea's PC-driven gaming culture are numerous. The government's wide-scale investment in broadband infrastructure in the 1990s created a gaming café culture that catapulted multiplayer titles like Starcraft into extreme popularity in the region. With Stellar Blade, an action-adventure that initially released exclusively on PlayS...

Netflix’s Most Popular Movies — 3 You Need to Watch Now (November 10-14)

It’s still relatively early in November, but Netflix already seems poised to enjoy a very good month of movies. When a Netflix original like the big-budget remake of Frankenstein races to the No. 1 slot and holds it for an extended period, that’s money well spent. It may also be an awards contender for the streamer. Watch With Us has selected Frankenstein and two other films as Netflix’s three most popular movies that you need to watch now. Our other picks include the beginning of a comedy franchise and a legal drama with some powerhouse performances. ‘Frankenstein’ (2025) The new Frankenstein by director Guillermo del Toro wasn’t a huge hit during its limited theatrical release, but it’s a streaming blockbuster that’s already the No. 1 movie on Netflix. Oscar Isaac stars as the title ...

Modder builds Windows 98 handheld gaming PC with Intel Pentium inside

Make a Pentium mmx cpu handheld computer - YouTube Watch On I'm partial to builds with a retrofuturistic flair, particularly palmtop projects that imagine a portable past that never existed. Taking a leaf from the 'Windows where it shouldn't be' chapter out of the modder's playbook, one solo tinkerer has built a throwback handheld gaming PC that's rocking Pentium inside.Built by maker Changliang Li, his Windows 98 handheld gaming PC plays all the contemporaneous hits, like StarCraft and Tomb Raider II (with of-the-era frame rates, too). Contained in a 3D printed, plastic shell spray painted an authentic shade of yellow that harkens back to its forebears, the homebrew handheld even features a Logitech rollerball mouse (via Hackaday). As for mouse clicks, those are tied to a lonely littl...

A Geekdad Preview of 2026 Movies – GeekDad

The year is again coming to a close, and that once again means it’s time for us to take a close look at the films that look interesting next year. I was never a huge fan of the franchise, but when I saw that Alison Brie, Idris Elba, Morena Baccarin, and Kristen Wiig would also be in the film, I took interest. ...
