I Thought I Knew What I Wanted From The Predator Franchise, But Badlands Changed My Mind

The Predator franchise is nearly 40 years old, and somehow, against all logic in reason, after a string of films that have been at best fine and at worst terrible, it’s never been stronger. The last three movies in the series, Prey, Killer of Killers, and Badlands, are three of the absolute best movies in the franchise. It’s a string of success that most modern franchises haven’t had. Before 2022’s Prey, I’m not sure I would have called myself a “Predator Fan.” I liked the franchise well enough, but I kinda need to call myself a fan now, as I loved Predator: Badlands almost as much as Dan Trachtenberg’s other two movies. In fact, I liked it so much that it’s changed my opinion on what the next Predator movie should be. (Image credit: 20th Century Studios)Prey Is My Favorite Predator Movi...

10 Great Sci-Fi Movies That Deserve Sequels We’ll Probably Never Get

Film fans have a difficult relationship with sequels, especially concerning the Sci-Fi genre. Viewers enjoy revisiting their favorite worlds and characters, but are all too familiar with the feeling of a sequel gone wrong. Some sci-fi films nail the initial premise so well that they don't necessarily need a sequel, yet fans still want more. Sci-fi operates on curiosity and exploration, traits that naturally lend themselves to further franchise installments. It seems that in the modern age of filmmaking, major studios are only interested in massive franchise opportunities, leaving many stand-alone sci-fi films with potential by the wayside. A great sci-fi movie opens the door to something larger and leaves the audience hungry for more. In that way, the following films don't feel like fai...

Valve Steam Frame VR: Revolutionary Wireless Gaming in 2026

Ever since the original Valve Index launched back in 2019, VR enthusiasts have been waiting for Valve's next move in virtual reality hardware. Well, that wait is finally over. Valve just announced the Steam Frame, a new standalone VR headset that can both stream games from a PC and play games locally thanks to an onboard Arm chip, and it is shaping up to be one of the most compelling VR devices we have seen in years. It is a full philosophical pivot for Valve. The headset is quite a bit different from Valve's previous model, the Index, which had to be tethered to a gaming computer with a physical wire. The Frame drops the cable entirely and adds standalone capabilities through an ARM-based processor with SteamOS, making it the first time Valve has implemented their operating system on ARM a...

As a Batman Fan, Here’s How I’d Rank Every Live-Action Movie in the Franchise

There’s an argument to be made that Superman is still the definitive comic book hero, but when it comes to movies, there isn’t a character more beloved than Batman. Batman has inspired more films than any other superhero character, and has become a highly sought after part for some of Hollywood’s greatest leading men. Although comic book films have faded in and out of popularity, it’s almost guaranteed that there will always be an upcoming film about Gotham’s caped crusader on the slate; in addition to the return of Robert Pattinson in The Batman: Part II, a new actor will be cast as Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold, a new reboot set in James Gunn’s DCU. Many of the greatest Batman films are legitimate classics, and even the lesser entries in the franchise are at least worth discus...

As the CEO of Arc Raiders publisher Nexon says AI is everywhere, game devs call BS

Arc Raiders' use of AI tools continues to create divides in gaming. The CEO of its developer's parent company, Nexon, recently claimed that generative artificial intelligence tools are everywhere in game development — plenty of game developers say otherwise. Nexon CEO Junghun Lee recently told Japanese outlet Game*Spark (and translated by Automaton), "I think it’s important to assume that every game company is now using AI." Nexon's studios, like Arc Raiders developer Embark Studios, have been utilizing AI in development, with Lee saying, "AI has definitely improved efficiency in both game production and live service operations." He went on to ponder, "if everyone is working with the same or similar technologies, the real question becomes: how do you survive? I believe it’s important to...
