Greece assessor’s office email hacked, sending malicious links to residents across town

News10NBC’s Adelisa Badzic spoke with town officials at Greece Town Hall about the hack.The town said it already fixed the issue, but a few people have already been fooled. Staff went into it’s network, which was not impacted, and quickly disarmed the link that was sent so if people clicked on it, nothing would happen. Back in December, the state division of Emergency Services did an audit on the town’s cybersecurity, and the town received the recommendations in February. GREECE, N.Y. — A 26-year-old Rochester man is facing charges after Greece Police say he stole about $70,000 worth of jewelry from a kiosk at Greece Ridge Mall. Victor Maisonet is charged with burglary, grand larceny, and criminal mischief. Police say on April 4 at around 8:15 a.m., officers responded to Monarch Jewelers inside Greece Ridge Mall for a report of a robbery. Police say Maisonet entered the mall through an employee corridor while most stores were still closed, and tried to get jewelry behind the kiosk counter. They say when unsuccessful, Maisonet used a tool to smash a glass display case and stole multiple gold necklaces valued at about $70,000.
