Greece v Scotland: Craig Gordon ready to start World Cup qualifier

Clark had showed loyalty to Gunn despite the 29-year-old himself being frozen out at Nottingham Forest after his summer switch from Norwich City.Gordon's experience dwarfs that of the other remaining goalkeepers in Clark's squad, although the former Celtic and Sunderland number one did concede Bain is "a little bit ahead in terms of match practice".Having made his Scotland debut in 2004, Gordon's last appearance came in a 3-0 home defeat by Greece in March. The Scots avenged that Nations League play-off loss with a 3-1 victory at Hampden last month and the Greeks are no longer in the running for a top-two spot in Group C."We've played them quite a few times recently and mixed results," Gordon said. "They're a very good team. Really good going forward, with great, creative players."It's goin...

Scotland star Billy Gilmour ruled out of trip to Greece… but could he be fit for Denmark showdown?

Billy Gilmour has been ruled out of Scotland’s World Cup qualifying match against Greece in Piraeus on Saturday night. The Napoli midfielder, who has sat out the Serie A club’s last two games with a groin injury, will not travel to Scotland’s training camp in Turkey this week. While it is still possible that the 24-year-old could return against Denmark next Tuesday, his absence this weekend will be a significant blow to head coach Steve Clarke. The national side must avoid defeat in Greece to guarantee themselves a chance of qualifying automatically for next summer’s finals in North America.Confirmation that Gilmour would be unavailable came as Scotland announced that Lennon Miller and Ross McCrorie had withdrawn from the squad altogether.Miller was sidelined when his Udinese team lost 2-0 to...

The streets outside transform into rivers, trapping families in mud and sewage. You can’t step out without the water reaching your ankles. These are not rare occurrences – like many Roma communities across Greece, the settlement lacks proper sewage, electricity, and infrastructure. Giannis, 24, dropped out of school after middle school, not by choice but out of necessity. “I used to go there and get bullied. Even the principal knew but didn’t help. They insulted me, beat me in the bathrooms, and from all that psychological abuse, I ended up developing an autoimmune disease, Guillain-Barré, from stress. They’d say things like, ‘Get out of here, you f...

Greece eyes US-made AIM-120D missiles for F-35 fleet

[AP] Athens has reiterated to the United States its interest in acquiring the medium-range air-to-air AIM-120D missiles for its F-35 fighter jets. Moreover, the Greek side has already expressed interest in the AIM-260 JATM (Joint Advanced Tactical Missile), which is expected to replace the AIM-120 i...
