Nevada mining industry marks Women and Girls in Science Day, seeks more women in STEM

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — International Day of Women and Girls in Science is drawing attention to the push for more women and girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math, including in Nevada’s mining industry, where women make up only a small share of the workforce.Wednesday, Feb. 11 is International Day of Women and Girls in Science, an observance that highlights the need for equitable access and full participation of women and girls in STEM careers. In Nevada’s mining sector — one of the state’s most prevalent STEM industries — women currently represent roughly 13% of the workforce, underscoring what advocates describe as room for growth as the industry evolves with new technologies and increased demand for critical minerals.Amanda Hilton, president of the Nevada Mining...

Monster Hunter Stories 3 Preview: Me and My Pet Rathalos

At some point, somebody at Capcom must have looked at Monster Hunter and said, out loud, “You know, the monsters in this bad boy are actually pretty cute. And there’s these talking cats, and they’re pretty cute, too. We’re kinda leaving money on the table by not making this a turn-based monster-capturing RPG.” And the executives did grin, and the sky opened, and the money rained down. And they saw that that somebody was right, and they said, “We gotta make more of these.”Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is the third one of these, in fact, if the number didn’t give it away, so that somebody’s idea had some staying power, but it’s this writer’s first. Not my first Monster Hunter; like most folks in the West, mine was Monster Hunter World. But it’s the first one of these babies. A...

High On Life 2’s Intro Is One Of The Best Video Game Openings Ever

Some games start slow, taking their time to teach you the controls and establish the world. High On Life 2 takes a very different approach. It tosses you into the world at 1,000 MPH, cracking jokes and having a blast. And you know what, it’s a great way to start a video game. High On Life 2 doesn’t assume that you’ve played its 2022 predecessor. Instead, the intro to this comedy-filled sci-fi FPS about humans being turned into drugs provides a crash course on what happened in the last game. It does this via an intro that is structured as a series of vignettes and moments seamlessly stitched together into one extended opening montage. At one point you’re fighting a giant monster, then you’re on a talk show, a second later you’re back in a limo with your mentor-turned-agent from the origin...

Gut microbes actively support immunity in people living with HIV

Weizmann Institute of Science press releaseA study conducted in Israel and Ethiopia revealed that the microbiome partly compensates for the immune damage caused by HIV.The microbiomes of people living with HIV were found to differ from those of uninfected controls. Moreover, the scientists noted that the mix of gut microbes – and the way the microbial populations functioned – continued to change with the progression of the infection, in ways unrelated to the viral therapy: dozens of bacterial strains disappeared, while others gained ground. To test the effect of the HIV-related microbiome on the immune system, the team transferred gut microbes from people living with HIV and from uninfected volunteers into mice.Read the full press release here. Source : Weizmann Institute of Science Sour...

Texas Woman’s University Unveils $107 Million Health Science Center

After breaking ground in late 2023 and soft launching this past fall, TWU has officially opened the doors to its $107 million Health Science Center. Of that total, $100 million was provided by the Texas legislature in 2022. The state-of-the-art facility is designed to advance interprofessional education, expand TWU’s healthcare training capacity, and increase the quality and quantity of professionals in Texas.“Our health science students on this campus have a home of their own in this facility,” said Noralyn Pickens, associate dean of interprofessional education and strategic initiatives. “It’s the heartbeat of our health science programs and has engaged and excited people about having a space on the Denton campus.”Situated on seven acres and spanning three stories, the 136,000-square-foot...

PlayStation State of Play February 2026 live report – a look ahead at Sony’s plans

How time flies. It only seems like yesterday we had the last State of Play, and yet here we are with Sony delivering a State of Play broadcast this evening from 10pm UK time. We'll be covering all of the announcements, as they happen, right here in this article, as we always do, in exactly the same way. The games will be different, though, I hope. As always can chat along with us and let us know what you think of the games. Some people like to be mean, others are quite positive about everything - it really depends on if every other game is a soulslike or not. What's in tonight's show is a bit of a guess at this point. It looks like Wolverine isn't going to be here, but we expect to see Saros, and perhaps an update on Fairgames if it's still in development. Shall we say it? Worth a go, I gu...

NASA telescope spots the building blocks for life spewing out of comet 3I/ATLAS

The interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS shed the building blocks of life as it flew past Earth last year, according to new data from NASA's SPHEREx space telescope. From its position in orbit, SPHEREx watched the rare interstellar visitor swing around the sun and make its closest approach to Earth in December, before the comet began its long journey back out of our solar system. The organic molecules seen emanating from the comet include methanol, cyanide and methane. These molecules are fundamental for biological processes on Earth, but can also be the product of non-biological processes, according to a statement released by NASA. In other words, organic doesn't mean aliens. You may like The SPHEREx researchers published their findings in the February issue of the Research Notes of the AAS (Amer...

AI Agents Are Transforming Science Research—but Raise Ethical Red Flags

Hastings Center Report Published February 12, 2026February 12, 2026 Without clear oversight, AI agents risk creating a dangerous ”responsibility gap,” experts warn. Artificial intelligence agents are beginning to transform scientific research, with systems now capable of working autonomously to generate hypotheses, run experiments, and draft full manuscripts. But widespread use of AI agents could create a “responsibility gap” in science, warns a new essay in the Hastings Center Report. The authors argue that heavy reliance on AI systems may leave no clear human responsible when errors, biased outputs, or fabricated information cause harm—particularly in a high-stakes area like medicine. They also warn that automating routine research tasks could erode ...
