YouTuber Challenges Valve To Beat His $950 DIY Steam Machine

Will Valve be able to make a Steam Machine for less than $1,000 like someone on YouTube did? Is Diablo 4 really coming to Switch 2 anytime soon? And why is Krafton no longer publishing Subnautica 2 on PC? It’s your Morning Checkpoint for April 14, 2026, where we strive to exhibit the soul of poetry in everything we do, or at least briefly distract you from the nihilism of climate change denial. I’m currently obsessed with this Marathon-themed keyboard. We are all patiently waiting for the group buy. In the meantime, today is the 19th anniversary of “Here Comes the Pizza.” Educate yourself and relive the glory. A DIY Steam Machine you don’t have to wait for YouTuber Zac Builds recently set out to beat Valve’s new PC console hybrid device to market. As spotted by PC Gamer, the goal was to ...

Bride of Science” by nimbus theatre at the Crane Theater

In February of 2020, just before the world turned upside down, Daleko Arts produced the regional premiere (and to date only production) of Lauren Gunderson's play Ada and the Engine about Ada Lovelace, the world's first computer programmer. Now nimbus theatre (a company that almost exclusively does original work) is bringing us a new original play about Ada written by #TCTheater's own Nissa Nordland, because we can never have too many plays about historical women of science. Especially Ada, a particular favorite of mine as a woman with a BA in math, an MS in statistics, and a day job as a statistical programmer. Ada lived a short but full life with many accomplishments that weren't always recognized in her lifetime, but provided the foundation for our world today. Nissa has written a lovel...

We’ve improved targeting to ensure your damage dealers are staying on track. Also, there’s no Singed this set.In the past, when your opponent surrendered, it would delete their board, causing the fight to be over instantly which had significant impact for players looking to lose streak, and affected final standings in lobbies. Starting in Space Gods, even when a player surrenders, their fight will continue to play out instead of instantly ending. Their placement will also be bel...

Building Alabama’s research pipeline

That growth can be especially meaningful for students whose opportunities may be shaped by geography and access. Davis pointed to her student Alexis, whose project and ISEF bid carried special significance.  “The reality for rural students is that they have structural barriers such as limited advanced STEM coursework and geographic challenges with research opportunities,” Davis said. “But her project is interesting, personal and relevant.”  Alexis’ project grew out of her own experience with back pain and doctor visits. Davis said she is developing an inexpensive, accessible Arduino-based device designed to quantify factors that may contribute to pain in students, especially based on how they wear their backpacks. The long-term goal is to create a kit and assembly video that younger studen...

Dimming X-rays could be boon for life on planets around young sun-like stars

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In the new movie “Project Hail Mary,” a dimming sun proves an existential threat to life on Earth — and Erid and many other life-containing planets in the story. A new study, however, has revealed that the reality of dimming stars is likely a benefit for the prospects for life on orbiting planets around these stars, not a threat. A paper describing the study was published April 13 in the Astrophysical Journal. The research team, which was led by Penn State scientists, used NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory to find that stars still in their astronomical infancy are calming down and dimming in their X-ray output more quickly than previously thought. Astronomers use Chandra and other telescopes to monitor how powerful radiation from young stars — often in the form of hig...
