Sheriff Busts Scammer, Recovers $52,000 Stolen in Facebook Marketplace Fraud
Demetria defrauded an Orange City resident of $52,000 through a fake excavator sale on Facebook Marketplace. Using bank records and other investigative resources, Volusia Sheriff’s Office financial crimes detectives tracked the suspect down near Detroit.
Investigators have probable cause to believe Demetria played a major role in laundering money not only from this victim but possibly from others across the country.
The good news is that the victim’s money has been recovered and any day a scammer is behind bars is a good day.
