On an injured ankle, Warriors’ Steph Curry passes Vince Carter

Despite laboring on an injured right ankle, Steph Curry still found a way to score 34 points and rise another spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during Tuesday’s game in Orlando. The Warriors guard (25,744 points) moved past Vince Carter (25,728) to climb to No. 22 on the scoring ladder. Surpassing Carter was significant for Curry for a very personal reason. His father, Dell Curry, played with Carter for three seasons in Toronto at the end of his career. “There are certain names that are a little more special than others, because of past history,” Curry admitted to reporters in Orlando. Up next on the list is Kevin Garnett, who finished his career with 26,071 points. John Havlicek, Hall of Famers Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, Dominique Wilkens and Oscar Robertson are all within 1,000 poin...

Contending Cavaliers, Rockets set for clash

The Cleveland Cavaliers took a chance on shooting guard Sam Merrill three seasons ago, then gave him a four-year contract extension this past summer. It continues to pay dividends for them.Merrill scored 11 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter Monday, including three 3-pointers, as Cleveland rallied for a 118-106 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks. The Cavaliers' six-game homestand continues Wednesday when Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets make their only regular season visit to Northeast Ohio.Cleveland relied on Merrill's hot hand throughout its comeback against Milwaukee, watching him pour in 6 of 9 3-point attempts after hurting a finger on his shooting hand on the opening possession of the game."I jammed it on that first play," said Merrill, who ranks 11th in the league in 3...

Roy Keane gives brutally honest take on Man United’s performance in Europa League final loss vs. Spurs

Getty Images Manchester United's dismal season took one final unpleasant turn on Wednesday, losing the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur in a game that Roy Keane said demonstrated the "lack of quality" that has defined their whole campaign. The lone goal in the final came in the 42nd minute courtesy of Spurs' Brennan Johnson, though he benefited from a poor defensive play from United. Defender Luke Shaw was ineffective and made it easy for Johnson, while goalkeeper Andre Onana could have done better as a fluky shot landed in the back of the net.Watch the Europa League-winning goal below. "I think the goal summed up the game – real lack of quality, poor decision-making fro...

Find the gap: Why the Premier League table is so congested

Feigning ignorance or disinterest in the league table is a staple of the post-match press conference.“Our job is not to watch the table,” said Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola after his team’s 1-0 defeat away at Aston Villa last month. Instead, Guardiola, his counterparts and their players insist they are focused solely on the team’s next game. This is, of course, a lie, but there is a case for paying less attention to the Premier League’s standings this season. With each team having played 11 of their 38 games, there is some daylight at both ends: Arsenal hold a four-point advantage at the top, while Wolverhampton Wanderers are seven adrift at the bottom, the biggest gap at this stage of a Premier League season. But cut away the head and the tail, and you’re left with a bloated middle,...
