From Reading Science Center
The Reading Science Center’s third annual Celebrate Science Day is ready for takeoff. On Sunday, May 3, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., this free community event will soar to new heights at a brand-new venue — Reading Regional Airport — offering families an unforgettable afternoon of science exploration in a setting built for flight.
This year’s theme, “Take Off,” invites visitors to explore the science of flight in all its forms. From helicopters to birds and the principles that lift them skyward, guests of all ages will discover how things fly while also enjoying a wide range of interactive STEM activities beyond aviation.
The event will feature interactive STEM stations, live demonstrations, themed characters, food trucks, and engaging exhibits presented by the Reading Science Center and community partners from across the region. Visitors can explore aviation science up close while also diving into additional science topics that make Celebrate Science Day a dynamic, well-rounded experience.
“This event has become an extension of Reading Science Center’s mission to make science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fun and inviting for children to explore. We are committed to fostering the innovators of tomorrow today,” said Executive Director Ralia Vardaxis. “We want children to see that science is all around them, to discover. What more exciting location could there be than an airport?”
Now in its third year, Celebrate Science Day continues to grow as a signature spring event for Berks County families. By relocating to the airport, the Reading Science Center is expanding both the scale and the scope of the event, creating new opportunities to connect children with real-world science in action.
“We’re proud to open our doors to the community for Celebrate Science Day,” said Zack Tempesco, Director of Reading Regional Airport. “An airport is where science, technology, and innovation come together every day, and we’re excited for families to experience that firsthand.”
Celebrate Science Day will take place rain or shine at Reading Regional Airport Aviation Hangar 521 (24 Liberator Way, Reading). Admission is free, with free parking available in the airport lot!
Celebrate Science Day is made possible through collaboration with community organizations that share a commitment to strengthening science education and expanding access to meaningful learning experiences for children and families throughout the region.
