Ermedin Demirović played with the Belgium international at FC Augsburg in Germany.
Demirović now plays for VfB Stuttgart, who are in Glasgow to face Martin O’Neill’s men in the Europa League play-off round tomorrow night.
He won’t face off against Engels, who is currently out injured until around the end of March. But he’s looking forward to seeing his friend al the same, as he talked up his qualities.
“If you ask him, I think he will tell you the same,” Demirović said when asked if his mate could play at the top level. “I told him from the first day on that he’s a very, very good and very talented player, and he needed that step, I think, to a bigger club, and I think he’s showing everyone that he can play in the top leagues and top teams.

“And, of course, I’m following him, I’ve always kept in touch with him, and I’m very happy for him that he’s playing like he’s playing now. I’m like a little fan of him, because he’s a really good guy.
“He texted me straight after the draw, so I was happy about it, to see him again.”
