This specialty blue is making a comeback for spring.
Cerulean has become more recognizable in pop culture since Miranda Priestley’s (Meryl Streep) iconic monologue in the 2006 film, “The Devil Wears Prada.”
Ahead of the sequel’s release in theaters May 1, Streep and Anne Hathaway, who star in the movie, paid homage to the scene during the press tour.
On Wednesday, April 1, Streep appeared on “The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert” and donned a cerulean cashmere sweater, similar to Hathaway’s character, Andy. According to Vogue, it was a custom J. Crew piece, styled by Micaela Erlanger.

“That monologue is so smart and funny — it reminds you that what feels personal is actually part of a much bigger story, which is why ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ still resonates,” the brand’s creative director, Olympia Gayot, who designed the sweater, said in a statement, per the outlet.
Cerulean is currently trending

A few days before Streep’s look, Hathaway’s stylist, Ashley Afriyie, reportedly shared a photo of the actress rocking a white hoodie with a colorblock on the back of it, reading “cerúleo.”
In the 2006 film, Priestley, Runway magazine editor-in-chief, emphasizes that the color of her assistant Andy’s sweater “is not just blue,” adding, “it’s not turquoise. It’s not lapis.”
It’s a color that Crayola shared has resonated with different generations, making it the nation’s favorite color in 2025.
Designers, including Tory Burch, Ashlyn, and Loewe, have debuted cerulean pieces in their 2026 Spring/Summer collections, Harper’s Bazaar reported.
So, don’t be surprised when you see fashionistas wearing it to add a splash to their wardrobe this season.
