Chaos Rising featuring Mega Greninja ex has now been revealed! As posted before, it will release on May 22nd as our fourth English Mega Evolution set. Prereleases will take place from May 9th through May 17th.
We can confirm Fennekin’s Illustration Rare from Ninja Spinner will be our Elite Trainer Box promo. (No English image has been revealed yet.) It will be cut from the set and turned into the promo. Froakie’s Illustration Rare likely wasn’t used because it forms a connected artwork with Frogadier and Mega Greninja ex, which would have left them incomplete.
The following Chaos Rising English cards have been revealed:
The set will include:
- Over 120 cards
- Five Mega Evolution Pokemon ex (Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Greninja ex, Mega Floette ex, Mega Dragalge ex, and likely the Mega Gallade ex promo)
- Five Pokemon ex (Beedrill ex, Gourgeist ex, Cobalion ex, Cinccino ex, and likely the Krookodile ex Gym promo)
- More than 20 Trainer cards
- 11 illustration rare Pokemon
- 18 ultra rare Pokemon and Trainer cards
- Six special illustration rare Pokemon and Supporter cards
Chaos Rising will contain 122 cards and will be an almost exact replica of Japan’s Ninja Spinner set, which releases this Friday, March 13th. Ninja Spinner contains 120 cards, as revealed earlier this week.
Japan hasn’t been releasing subsets lately, which is why our English set is so small — it’s based on just one Japanese source. Like Phantasmal Flames and Perfect Order, this will be one of the smallest English sets to release since 2010.
Since there are currently TCG shortages globally, it’s possible Creatures is intentionally designing fewer new cards to free up printing capacity, allowing more copies of those cards to be produced (or even other sets). But this is just speculation.
