Cigna to cut 2,000 jobs

The reduction represents less than 3% of the company’s global workforce.

Cigna plans to reduce its global workforce by approximately 2,000 positions, representing less than 3% of its workforce.

The layoffs will occur by the end of February.

A spokesperson for The Cigna Group said by statement: “As we drive greater efficiency across our business, we have made the difficult decision to reduce roles in our workforce. This decision was made with deliberate care and focus, and we are providing a package that includes a variety of transition services for impacted colleagues.”

Cigna did not give specifics on which jobs or departments will be impacted.

The news coincides with Cigna’s Q4 and full-year 2025 earnings release in which the managed care company reported better-than-expected results for the quarter but set its full-year earnings guidance below expectations.

During the earnings call, President, CEO and Chairman David Cordani announced the settlement of a lawsuit with the Federal Trade Commission over Express Scripts’ insulin pricing.

The FTC called it a “landmark settlement” as it requires Express Scripts and its affiliated entities to adopt changes to its pharmacy benefit manager business that increases transparency and drives down patients’ out-of-pocket costs for drugs like insulin by up to $7 billion over 10 years.

Cordani said the agreement will deliver “$7 billion in out-of-pocket cost relief over the next 10 years for the 100 million customers and patients we serve,” according to Seeking Alpha.

PBM Express Scripts is part of Evernorth Health Services, the health services division of The Cigna Group.

Cigna’s settlement announcement followed the passage of a healthcare law mandating PBM reforms.

Cigna layoffs are not posted in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice in Connecticut where the company is based.

WARN notice does list CVS Health-Aetna layoffs of 313 remote workers who are assigned to a facility in Connecticut. The layoffs will occur between April 4 and July 31 due to operational changes in CVS Health Aetna’s Small Group business segment.
