TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka’s governing body moved forward on an agreement to finance the replacement of water lines across the city.
The city has inked a loan agreement with KDHE for $11 million. The funding will finance the city’s effort to replace the remaining lead water lines in use.
The federal government issued an order last year for municipalities across the United States to catalog their water lines and mark all lead pipes to be taken out.
The city completed an inventory of its 55,000 lines last fall, finding about a thousand in need of replacement.
