A cold weather system is expected to affect Greece from Friday onward, marking a noticeable drop in temperatures and ushering in wintry conditions that are forecast to last until New Year’s Eve.
According to weather reports, conditions will turn unstable on Friday, with increased cloud cover and local rainfall across several parts of the country. Rain is expected mainly in eastern mainland areas, nearby islands, and parts of western Greece, while isolated thunderstorms may occur in the Ionian Sea until midday. Weather phenomena are expected to gradually weaken during the afternoon and largely subside by evening.
Light snowfall is forecast for mountainous areas in central and northern mainland regions. Temperatures will fall slightly, particularly in the north, where daytime highs are expected to range between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. Elsewhere, temperatures will remain milder but still lower than recent days. Frost is likely in northern inland areas during the early morning hours.
In the capital region, cloudy skies are expected, with temperatures ranging from 7 to 16 degrees Celsius and moderate winds. Similar conditions are forecast for the country’s second-largest city, where temperatures will range between 6 and 12 degrees.
Looking ahead, Saturday is expected to bring increased cloud cover and local rainfall in eastern and southern areas, accompanied by strong northerly winds in the Aegean Sea and a further slight temperature drop nationwide. Frost will persist in northern inland areas during the morning.
By Sunday, weather conditions are expected to improve, with mostly clear skies and limited cloud cover, although cold northerly winds will continue in some regions. Temperatures are not expected to change significantly, but frost will remain a feature in central and northern mainland areas.
A meteorologist described the shift as a “cold intrusion,” noting that temperatures are expected to fall by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius from Friday, with cold air and northerly winds maintaining wintry conditions through the end of the year
