College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences to restructure schools and departments | News

The university’s College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will restructure its schools and departments beginning in fall 2026 in response to the budget deficit.

CLASS Dean Albert Bimper sent an email to faculty on March 20 informing them of the changes, which Bimper called a “streamlined model” centered on the college’s three divisions.

The divisions — communication, humanities and social science — will combine existing departments to create new or retitled schools.

On March 19, university President Harrison Keller and Provost Michael McPherson announced 85 cuts to master’s, major, minor and certificate programs. Of the 85 consolidations and eliminations, 34 CLASS programs were impacted.

The email notification does not include information on cuts to faculty or staff employment, but does say there will be “emotionally heavy” conversations in weeks to come.

The North Texas Daily has reached out to the university and the CLASS for more information.
