Danville Science Center launches new exhibition and Dome show in weeks ahead
DANVILLE, Va., Dec. 30, 2025 — The Danville Science Center will unveil two new experiences in the first half of January, as “Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” launches onto the giant screen of The Dome and “Science Unplugged” provides interactive, device-free STEM interaction.
“Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” explores what it will take for humans to embark on the first journey to Mars. The astronomy show seeks to answer questions about how future astronauts will maintain their health and stay motivated on the long, two-year journey to Mars. Guests will witness how creativity, collaboration, communication and expertise in a diverse number of fields are key for the success of deep space travel.
“Science Unplugged” gets back to basics with hands-on elements demonstrating scientific concepts found in architecture and physics. Guests can build a bridge and reconstruct world famous arches; experiment with tops, wheels and bursts of air; and get a mechanical advantage using pulleys and gears. It’s a throwback – because scientific principles never get old!
“Guests have the opportunity to start their year with a wide range of science experiences,” said Adam Goebel, Danville Science Center Executive Director. “They are a great juxtaposition of basic science principles and the scientific advances required to make it to Mars.”
“Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” debuts Saturday, January 3; “Science Unplugged” opens Wednesday, January 14. “Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” and “Science Unplugged” are both available to guests of all ages.
Science Center admission includes access to “Science Unplugged.” Guests can experience “Mars: The Ultimate Voyage” with the addition of a Dome ticket to their Science Center visit.
Members, active-duty military and children ages 3 and younger receive free admission. Discounts are available to EBT cardholders through the Museums for All program.
The Danville Science Center (677 Craghead Street, Danville, VA 24541) is open Wednesday–Saturday from 9:30 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday from 11:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
