A Palm Desert nonprofit dedicated to helping people rebuild their lives is preparing for its biggest fundraiser of the year.
Desert Best Friends Closet is getting ready to host its annual “Put Your Best Shoe Forward” fashion show this April, an event designed to highlight the organization’s mission of empowering people through clothing, confidence, and job readiness.
The nonprofit operates a shop in Palm Desert where shoppers can find quality clothing at deeply discounted prices. Beyond the store, the organization provides resources and training to help individuals prepare for employment.
Through its Bridge to Employment program, participants receive guidance on job readiness, professional presentation, and workplace skills.
Stephen Cunningham says the program helped him discover a new direction in life.
“I never had any idea or an inkling to work in nonprofit,” Cunningham said. “Now I have a direction and experience working in that type of business.”
The upcoming fashion show fundraiser will showcase some of the organization’s success stories. Erin Heinlein will serve as one of the event’s emcees alongside NBC Palm Springs’ Kai Beach.
The event takes place Friday, April 10 at the Westin Rancho Mirage Resort and will feature participants styled in professional attire, highlighting the confidence that comes from being dressed for success.
Organizers say the program goes beyond clothing by helping people feel prepared and confident as they enter the workforce.
Even if people cannot attend the event, the nonprofit encourages community members to donate gently used clothing to support its mission.
For many participants, something as simple as a professional outfit can make a powerful difference.
