“The Sew-Off” Upcycling Competition tasks 40 designers to transform a mystery sack of materials into a unique, fashion-inspired garment, which will be revealed in a runway showcase
What do you make from a sack of scraps — tuffs of tulle, bits and bobs of ribbon, strips of satin — that can be seen as high fashion?
A group of 40 designers are tasked with finding that answer.
On Sunday, March 8, Portland Fashion Institute is kicking off its 16th Anniversary celebration with “The Sew-Off,” which challenges designers to transform a mystery bag of materials into something new and fashion-forward. Competitors have spent more than a month working on their upcycled creations.
As Oregon’s only accredited fashion design school, this event showcases where creativity meets sustainability and welcomes audiences to witness it live. Designers will unveil their designs in a runway showcase and be face a panel of judges. Items will be judged on creativity, craftsmanship and innovation in upcycling.
