DGIST Hosted ESG Management Declaration Ceremony … “Leaping Forward as a Science and Technology Institution Ushering a Sustainable Future”

□ The Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science & Technology (DGIST; President Kunwoo Lee) announced that it hosted the DGIST ESG Management Declaration Ceremony in the Conference Room of the Main Administration Building on March 17 (Tue) and officially declared the establishment of a sustainable management system.

□ Environmental, social, and governance (ESG), which has recently established itself as one of the key standards across the globe, refers to a business management paradigm in which institutions and companies seek sustainability based on environmental protection, social responsibility, and transparent decision-making structures.

□ Recognizing its responsibility to contribute to the sustainable development of society as an educational and research institution leading national science and technology, DGIST has been pursuing ESG management. DGIST aims to strengthen environmental responsibility and social value across various areas, including research, education, and administration, and to enhance transparency and trust as a public organization.

□ In this regard, DGIST created the ESG Management Committee and has developed an institutional vision and strategic framework. More specifically, it unveiled its ESG vision titled “DGIST Leading a Sustainable Future through Creativity and Inclusion” and set out key directions, such as creating an eco-friendly campus, producing social value based on science and technology, and building responsible governance.

□ At the declaration ceremony held on this day, an institutional declaration of action was read out loud along with the announcement of the ESG progress and future plan. It was attended by representatives of the university to reaffirm their commitment to action.

□ “ESG is not an option but a necessity, and it is time for education and research institutions to re-establish their roles from the perspective of sustainability,” emphasized DGIST President Kunwoo Lee. “Building upon our competencies in scientific and technological innovation, DGIST will usher a sustainable future by creating social value and ensuring a responsible operation of the institution.”

□ Meanwhile, by systematically managing and disclosing ESG performance and reinforcing communication with stakeholders, DGIST plans to build a globally acceptable sustainable management model.
