Nintendo has had its share of highs and lows over the years. They’re currently enjoying a period of great success with the Switch and Switch 2, but there have been other eras where they failed to capture the market as well as their competitors. One of the ways Nintendo found to overcome their weaknesses and stand out from the competition was to focus on innovation over powerful hardware.
There’s no greater example of this philosophy than the Wii and DS era, headed up by Satoru Iwata and Reggie Fils-Aime. After falling behind Sony and Microsoft in the previous generation, they launched these two systems with totally unique controls and other innovative features that helped push them to massive success.
