The NBA is loaded with good shooting guards, from Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell to Desmond Bane and Mikal Bridges. However, the Boston Celtics may have the best one of all in Jaylen Brown.
If Brown wasn’t at their level before, he is now. He’s having a historic season for the Celtics and is on an incredible run, scoring at least 30 points in nine straight games and 12 of his last 13.

Not only is Brown averaging a career-high 29.7 points per game, but he’s also stayed efficient despite taking more shots than ever before. He leads the NBA in 2-point attempts per game with 15.9 but is still shooting a career-best 50.6 percent from the floor. He’s also draining 37 percent of his 3-pointers and has the best free-throw percentage of his career.
Throw in Brown’s stellar defense and other skills, and he has a serious case as the best pure shooting guard in the league, even if he may not be the flashiest.

“When it comes down to playing shooting guard…Jaylen Brown is literally the prototypical shooting guard,” Jordan Banks recently declared on his “Players Choice” podcast. “He scores the ball from all levels…He can move without the ball…He locks up on defense.”
Brown does everything well, and that’s what makes him special. He can score from anywhere on the court, gets his teammates the ball, rebounds well and plays shutdown defense.
Add it all up, and he’s an MVP candidate with a shot at his first career All-NBA First Team selection this year.
