The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will host a free online Esports gaming tournament featuring the game “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” on Saturday.
Presented by Brightspeed Fiber Internet, Battle in the Forest is open for players ages 10 and older and will be live streamed on Twitch.tv.
Registration was open through Dec. 3.
Participants will compete in a one-on-one, single-day, double-elimination tournament to run in conjunction with “Bull City Gaming.” The matches will be best of three, while the championship match will be best of five.
In the event more than 32 participants register, the tournament will expand to two days with the qualifying rounds taking place on December 6 and the top eight participants battling it out in the finals on Sunday, Dec. 7.
The first-place winner will take home a new Nintendo Switch 2 Console + Mario Kart World Bundle, while the second-place finisher will receive a HORI Split Pad Pro Controller (Sonic the Hedgehog Edition). We will also award a prize to our third-place finisher, and as an added incentive, enter all players in two incentive prize drawings. The top three winners will also receive an Esports scholarship from Barton College Esports.

Evening Holiday Walk at Joyner Park Dec. 6-28
The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will offer a free walkable holiday experience at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road, during several evenings in December.
Beginning Dec. 6, and continuing each evening from 6-9 p.m. through Dec. 28, community members are invited to stroll through the park’s Walker Garden and Performance Garden to view dozens of colorful lights that adorn the crepe myrtle trees and shrubs, along with a nearly 20-foot-tall Christmas tree on the Performance Garden Stage.
The remainder of the park will be closed in accordance with the normal park schedule (open sunrise to sunset).
Free and open to everyone, the Evening Walk at Joyner Park is the perfect opportunity to embrac the spirit of the season and snap some memorable holiday photos.
Free parking will be available in the Joyner Park parking lot.
Wendell Wonderland Dec. 5
Wendell Wonderland, the town of Wendell’s annual holiday festival including craft vendors, food trucks, a cookie walk, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa, will be Dec. 5 from 5-9 p.m.
The event is located at 99 W. Third St. in Wendell.
Vendor parking is located at the park’n’ride lot at 7 N. Oakwood Avenue, behind Grillbillies. Attendees are welcome to park in any available parking downtown.
Youngsville Christmas Parade Dec. 6
The Youngsville Christmas Parade will be Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. The previous evening, Dec. 5, the town’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Louisburg Christmas Parade Dec. 6
The town of Louisburg will hold its Christmas Parade Dec. 6 from 3-5 p.m.

Rolesville Christmas Parade Dec. 7
The Rolesville Christmas Parade is scheduled from 2-3 p.m. Dec. 7 on Main Street in Rolesville.
The parade will start at Thales Academy, will move up Storage Drive to Main St., turn left onto Main Street then right onto E. Young St., and ending at Rolesville Baptist Church.

The Knightdale Christmas Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 13.
The parade begins on First Avenue near Knightdale Station Run and ends on First Avenue just before Smithfield Road.
