Egypt and Greece have reaffirmed their support for a Libyan-led political process aimed at holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, during a round of consultations held in Cairo on Wednesday.
The talks were chaired on the Egyptian side by Ambassador Basel Salah, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Libya Department, and on the Greek side by Ambassador Andreas Friganas, Director General for Political Affairs.
Both sides reviewed the latest developments in Libya and discussed ways to support a comprehensive political settlement under UN auspices.
They also stressed their rejection of foreign interference that fuels the conflict, calling for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries in line with UN resolutions.
Egypt and Greece further emphasized the importance of regional and international coordination to help unify Libyan institutions, strengthen state sovereignty, and combat terrorism and illegal immigration.
The two sides agreed to continue consultations in the coming period, underscoring that stability in Libya is a key pillar for the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean region.
