Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, held a phone call with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, on Friday to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments, with a focus on Libya.
According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s support for Libya’s unity and stability, stressing the need to unify state institutions and reach a comprehensive political settlement.
He also called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held “as soon as possible” through a Libyan-led process that preserves the country’s sovereignty.
Abdelatty said Egypt remained committed to advancing the political track and backing international mediation efforts to help build effective institutions capable of addressing Libya’s ongoing challenges.
Meanwhile, Gerapetritis praised Egypt’s role in easing regional tensions and underlined the importance of continued coordination between Cairo and Athens to support stability.
Both sides agreed to strengthen co-operation across multiple sectors and to work jointly to maintain peace in the region.
