Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, held a phone call on Friday with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis. The discussion, part of an ongoing co-ordination effort, focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments.
Both ministers reaffirmed the deep historical ties between Egypt and Greece, noting the qualitative leap in their relationship following its recent elevation to a strategic partnership.
Abdel-Aati voiced Egypt’s aspiration to further bolster economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Greece. He also praised Greece’s support for Egypt within various European Union institutions.
The talks addressed serious regional developments, with Abdel-Aati reviewing Egypt’s ongoing efforts aimed at de-escalation, containing tensions, and prioritizing diplomatic solutions.
For his part, the Greek foreign minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s mediation efforts and its role in promoting calm.
Discussions also covered the situation in Libya, where Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on preserving Libya’s unity and stability, and the need to unify its institutions.
He stressed the importance of reaching a comprehensive Libyan–Libyan solution that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people while safeguarding sovereignty.
Abdel-Aati also highlighted the need to advance the political process toward holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously at the earliest opportunity.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination within the framework of their strategic partnership, support efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, and prevent further instability in the region.
