“I’d like to live in Spain. I really like Madrid; it reminds me of Buenos Aires,” said Fernandez.
“Players live where they want. I’d live in Madrid. I get by in English, but I’d be more comfortable in Spanish.”
With rumours swirling about the 25-year-old’s next steps, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that a summer move could be possible, despite his long-term contract.

‘No, not at all’ – Cucurella on Chelsea teammate Fernandez’ ‘scared’ jibe over Finalissima

”At the moment, there is no agreement over a new contract between the player and Chelsea. If an important opportunity arises, a summer move cannot be ruled out, but Chelsea remain in control. He is under a long-term contract, is a crucial player, and the club invested significant money to sign him.
”Regarding links with Real Madrid, Enzo Fernandez has stated that there are no talks. This is accurate, as there are currently no negotiations or concrete discussions.”
“My focus is here [at Chelsea] for now. We have eight Premier League matches to play and the FA Cup. Then, the World Cup coming up, so we’ll see after that.”
Liam Rosenior was asked for his reaction to Fernandez’s comments in his pre-match press conference before Chelsea’s trip to face Everton and the Blues boss reiterated his vice-captain’s commitment.
“I had a great conversation with Enzo at length this morning before training, not just about his comments but how he is feeling, how as a team we can improve,” the Chelsea boss said.
“He is one of the captains at the club and what I will say is that he made it really clear how happy he is here at this club, how much he wants to win and how passionate he is for us to be successful.
“He also said that in translation and in emotion, things get misconstrued. For me, he is fully committed to this group and to winning here at this football club.”
Cucurella makes Barcelona admission
In the pre-match press conference, Cucurella was asked about his thoughts on a move back to La Liga and specifically Barcelona, to which the full-back replied that an offer “would be difficult to refuse”.
“You always think about going back. I’m very happy there [in London] and so is my family,” he said. “I’ll leave it for a few years from now.
“It [an offer from Barcelona] would be difficult to refuse. It’s not just about me. I’d have to think about my family. If it happens, it happens, and we’ll see what decision is made.”
Cucurella has also spoken candidly about the club’s decision to part ways with Enzo Maresca and appoint Rosenior.
“The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us,” he told The Athletic. “Those are decisions taken by the club.
“If you asked me, I would not have made this decision.”
The Spaniard admitted Chelsea’s players feel “discouraged” after their heavy defeat to PSG.
“I understand this is part of the club’s policy and that they want to take this direction – signing young players, looking to the future.
“But, for all of us who are still here and want to win big things, moments like this make you feel discouraged.”
