Unity and Epic have struck a deal that means Unity-made games will be publishable within Fortnite. Unity’s webshop tools are adding support for Unreal Engine.
The Unity-Epic deals saw the firms’ respective bosses Matt Bromberg and Tim Sweeney appear on stage together at Unite this morning, Unity’s annual conference. The collab is set to roll out next year, the execs said.
President and CEO of Unity Matt Bromberg said that the deal will “create more opportunities for game developers around the world.”
He added: “Choice and open systems create growth for everyone in the gaming ecosystem.”
Founder and CEO of Epic Games Tim Sweeney added: “Just like the early days of the web, we believe that companies need to work together in order to build the open metaverse in a way that’s interoperable and fair.”
Sweeney added: “Working alongside Unity we’re helping developers build fun games, reach bigger audiences, and find success.”
Elsewhere during this morning’s keynote, Unity talked through additions and improvements to most of its gamedev products, including its Unity Core Standards, its product verification process, Unity Studio and a new tool, Unity AI Gateway, which is launching in 2026 and is the “officially supported way to connect third-party AI agents securely with Unity”.
It also talked through improvements to its UA and admon engine, Unity Vector. You can watch the keynote in full here.
“We want to be the bridge between developers’ creativity and the players who turn their games into global hits,” said Unity boss Bromberg. “We’re putting developers in control of their own success – giving them real choice and the power to do it all seamlessly inside Unity.”
