The 98th Academy Awards featured a clear winner when it came to the most awards: Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” cleaned up with many of the evening’s major Oscars, including Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
The latter went to actor Sean Penn, making for his third Oscar win in his career. Penn did not attend the event despite being at other awards shows, with previous winner Kieran Culkin accepting the award on his behalf.
The cast, along with Anderson and others involved in the production, went on stage to accept the Best Picture win. “One Battle” claimed the night’s biggest award over “Sinners,” “Sentimental Value,” “F1,” “Frankenstein,” and five other nominees.
While “One Battle” received six awards, the most prizes of the night, and many fans agreed it was worthy, an ESPN personality recently blasted the movie after seeing it, even revealing critical spoilers on the air during his rant.

A clip surfaced featuring ESPN’s Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on “First Take” as he went off about the Paul Thomas Anderson film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor.
“There used to be five movies. Now there are 10?” Russo said regarding the Best Picture nominees, adding, “So now there are 10 movies qualified as Oscar winners. No, they’re not.”
“The movies this year were awful, and by the way, I saw it. “One Battle After Another,” Sean Penn was killed three times. The movie stunk! It was stupid. It didn’t make any sense. Sean Penn has an incredible car accident, and he walks out alive, and then they kill him with some vents,” he said in a major spoiler.
Russo continued by saying he didn’t care if he gave out a spoiler because viewers “don’t wanna see it” and “the movie stinks!”
His rant also featured him bringing up last year’s Best Picture winner, “Anora,” which he said was “even worse” than “One Battle After Another.”
Russo is known for his hot takes and rants on sports, so it was definitely a departure for him to delve into movies during the ESPN show. However, a number of commenters on the clip agreed with his take about “One Battle.”
“He’s correct. It was a massive waste of time to watch it,” a commenter replied on the clip.
Another said, “A ringing endorsement for those on the fence about watching OBAA.”
“Russo is exaggerating but the movie was completely overrated based on its reviews,” another commenter wrote.
