According to Greek authorities, among the passengers were four Estonian citizens, including the country”s ambassador to Greece, as well as a Greek coast guard officer who was working as part of the Frontex mission. The circumstances surrounding the sinking of the vessel are currently being clarified.
After the accident, people were pulled from the water by Greek coast guard units and the crew of a catamaran that was passing near the scene. All the victims were taken to a medical center on the island of Kastellorizo, where they received first aid.
Later, four injured individuals were evacuated by a Greek air force Super Puma helicopter to a hospital on the island of Rhodes. There is no information about any fatalities resulting from the incident.
Greek authorities are currently investigating the circumstances of the accident. Frontex has not yet officially commented on the causes of the incident; however, it is known that the vessel was carrying out tasks within the framework of the European Union’s border protection mission in the Aegean Sea.
On January 8, the media reported that a drone attacked the oil tanker Elbus, which was in the Black Sea under the flag of Palau, near the town of Kastamon on the Turkish coast. The tanker was heading to the Russian port of Novorossiysk to load oil.
