Tensions flared Wednesday as around 200 farmers in Corinth, Peloponnese, clashed with police at the Kiato junction, attempting to block the national highway. Police responded with tear gas.
The highway remained closed for about an hour in both directions before calm was restored.
In northern Greece, farmers briefly blocked the Evzoni border checkpoint with North Macedonia, reopening it around 1.45 p.m. after closing it at noon. A blockade in Halkidona near Thessaloniki, which began at 12.45 p.m., also ended after an hour.
New protests were underway at the Promachonas checkpoint near Serres, where tractors bypassed police barriers, while farmers from Alexandria, Imathia, blocked the lane toward the city of Veria on the Egnatia highway in an open-ended protest.
At Malgara tolls on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway, the lane toward Athens remains closed since Monday. Farmers say it will stay shut until their demands are met.
