The Fredericksburg City School Board recently approved the appointment of Amber Obeng as Chief Financial Officer.
Most recently, Obeng served as finance director for the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, where she oversaw financial operations and strategic planning to support long-term organizational sustainability. Her professional background also includes service as accounting manager for Partnership for the Future, fractional controller with Finances Made Easy, and staff accountant with Ernst & Young, one of the world’s leading professional services firms.
In announcing the hire, FCPS wrote that Obeng has demonstrated strong strategic thinking and executive judgment while managing complex financial systems, including oversight of budgets exceeding $25 million.
This year, Obeng will complete the Chief Financial Officer Program at Columbia Business School in addition to her earned master of science degree in accounting from the University of Memphis and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Albany State University.
“I am energized with the opportunity to align financial strategy with purpose to create lasting, positive value in Fredericksburg City Public Schools,” Obeng said in the release.
Superintendent Marci Catlett emphasized the importance of strong financial leadership in supporting the division’s mission.
“Financial stewardship is essential to ensuring that our schools remain strong, stable, and focused on student success,” Catlett said in the release. “Ms. Obeng brings exceptional financial expertise along with the strategic vision needed to guide responsible planning. Her leadership will help ensure that our resources are managed with transparency, accountability, and a clear commitment to the students and families we serve.”
Obeng steps into her new role on March 16.
