Freiburg are confident that they will reach the quarter-finals of an European competition for the first time in club history, but for that they need to beat Belgian side Genk in their Europa League last 16 tie.
“The chance of reaching the quarter-finals is obviously high,” defender Philipp Treu said on Wednesday.

Coach Julian Schuster added: “We have the motivation and the ambition to achieve this historic milestone. That would be very special.”
However, to achieve a good result in Thursday’s first leg, Freiburg will need to overcome their weak form away from home. So far this season, they have only managed two wins on the road in the Bundesliga and just one in the Europa League group stage.
Freiburg will be without injured defender Max Rosenfelder and midfielder Maximilian Eggestein, who is suspended after receiving a red card.
