GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Bo Diddley Plaza rang in the New Year in style with great music from local artists.
The 30 degree temperatures didn’t stop hundreds of people in Gainesville from showing up to have a great time.
Lead singer of local band, The Savants, Justin McKenzie, said this year he’s just focusing on being a better person. He said it’s easy to say you want to workout more, or to say you’re going to stop smoking or to vaping, but said this year he wants to be the best version of himself.
“I always have the same one every year to be a better person,” said McKenzie. “I know that’s general and vague, but I already stopped smoking cigarettes, I’m drinking less, I’m working out. So just be a better person I think everyone should feel that way.”
All through the night, and past midnight, music filled Bo Diddley plaza with everything from soul classics to original music from local artists to literally ring in the new year.
The Savant’s played right before the turn of the year, and after leaving the people at Bo Diddley plaza were cheering and clamoring for more.
While you couldn’t see any fireworks from the plaza, you really didn’t need them with all the great music.
