The Galaxy Tab A11+ just went official and it actually seems like a pretty decent Android tablet for its $250 price tag.
Budget tablets have long been a staple of Android, but there’s been a lack of really good options under $250 as of late. With its latest upgrade, though, Samsung is throwing in a pretty great option.
Galaxy Tab A11+ is an 11-inch Android tablet with a 1920×1200 TFT LCD 90Hz display, wrapped up in a metal unibody design featuring IP52 dust/water resistance. The tablet also features a microSD card slot, Android 16 out of the box, and a 7,040 mAh battery with 25W charging over USB-C. There’s no word on how many years of updates it will get.
Despite the rising cost of memory, Samsung gave its budget-oriented tablet a welcome RAM boost this year from 4GB on the prior model to 6GB this time around. There’s still an 8GB version worth upgrading to, but it’s nice that the most affordable model will get a huge usability boost this time around. At least, that’s assuming the MediaTek MT8775 chipset is up to the task, which it seems to be on paper.
Rounding things out you’ll get an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and camera-based face recognition. Yet again, there’s no fingerprint sensor.
Overall, though, this looks like a reasonably solid tablet for the price, especially with the memory in mind. It’ll launch in the US on January 8 for $249 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage included in that price. By comparison, the Galaxy Tab A9+ started at $219 with just 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
Big upgrade this time around.
Hopefully, other budget Android tablets will follow.
