The hottest gaming products during holiday Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales tend to be devices, accessories, and peripherals. Still, you can find tons of incredible deals on video games themselves, too.
In fact, one of my favorite things about these events is that many of the best games released in recent years are often discounted down to dirt low prices — and this year, such is the case with FromSoftware’s 2022 award-winning ARPG Elden Ring.
Not just GOTY, but game of the generation
It’s fair to say that the vast majority of titles that get nominated for the prestigious Game of the Year award are special, and that the ones that win it are absolute must-plays. But even among those select few, Elden Ring is truly in a league of its own, and is considered by many to be the game of the decade, or generation.
Like all of FromSoftware’s ARPGs, it’s filled with demanding, but incredibly engaging challenges, including a wide variety of different mobs, a diverse array of environments and dungeons with unique obstacles and hazards, and the spectacle-laden, expertly designed boss fights that the developer is known for.
In Elden Ring, though, all of it’s blown up to an unfathomably huge scale, and jam-packed with countless weapons, armors, spells, and more to find, along with jaw-dropping discoveries to stumble across as you explore The Lands Between.
Paired with the stamina-driven, dodging-based Souls combat formula at its most refined, a ridiculous number of buildcrafting options, and amazingly rich — if not rather opaque — narratives supported by an ocean of fascinating lore, that mind-blowing open world makes Elden Ring a true landmark title, and one that will stick with you for a lifetime once you experience it. And at just $15-20? Picking it up and embarking on your journey to become Elden Lord is a no-brainer, this Black Friday.
Something important to note is that this is just the base game; the $39.99 Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is a separate purchase. Once you play through Elden Ring itself, though, I strongly recommend playing the expansion as well. It’s just as good if not better, and I gave it a perfect score in my review as a result.
