YPSILANTI — Hundreds of gaming enthusiasts are gearing up for the Gamers for Giving LAN Party, returning April 10–12 to Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center for a weekend of video game competition for a cause. The nationally recognized charity event, founded by EMU alum Zach Wigal, has raised millions of dollars to support hospitalized children through gaming.
Organized by Gamers Outreach, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the hospital experience for children through video games, “Gamers for Giving” has raised millions of dollars to support Gamers Outreach programs, helping deliver therapeutic gaming experiences to pediatric patients in more than 500 hospitals and health care facilities worldwide. Funds raised at the 2026 event will support the installation of new equipment and help meet growing demand from hospital partners.
“Gamers Outreach began as a passion project during my time as a high school student. My college years at EMU played a huge role in shaping both my path and the organization’s early momentum,” said Wigal. “Bringing Gamers for Giving back to Eastern isn’t just a logistical choice, it’s a homecoming. This community believed in our mission from the start, and it’s where I first saw how gamers could rally to make a real difference. The funds raised each year help us deliver technology and equipment that give hospitalized kids moments of joy, connection, and normalcy when they need it most.”
“Eastern Michigan University is proud to host Gamers for Giving, and we are deeply grateful to Zach Wigal and the entire gaming community for the passion and purpose they bring to this event,” said Walter Kraft, vice president for communication at EMU. “What began as Zach’s idea here at Eastern has grown into a national movement that changes lives. The dedication of gamers, volunteers, and supporters shows how a community united by play can create real impact for children and families facing medical challenges.”
Proceeds from Gamers for Giving support Gamers Outreach’s flagship programs, including GO Karts (Gamers Outreach Karts) and Save Point machines. GO Karts are portable video game kiosks designed specifically for hospitals, providing therapeutic play and distraction for children receiving care. Save Point machines are high-tech vending machines that distribute toys, video game codes, wearables and other prizes to pediatric patients, offering encouragement as they progress through treatment.
Gamers Outreach programs will be on display and available for attendees to experience throughout the event.

About Gamers Outreach
Founded in 2007, Gamers Outreach is a charity organization, working to restore joy and normalcy in the lives of hospitalized children and their families. Each year, millions of kids receive medical care in hospitals, facing experiences that can be frightening and isolating. Hospitalization often means losing access to friends, school, and the everyday moments that define childhood. Gamers Outreach helps bridge this gap by providing programs that make therapeutic entertainment accessible in healthcare environments, improving the patient experience through play. The organization donates video game equipment and software, creating opportunities for kids to engage in activities while caregivers focus on treatment. Today, Gamers Outreach serves more than 512 hospitals worldwide, enabling play and connection to young patients in need.
