I thought I was imagining things when TikTok started insisting that Gap was the place to shop last year. There was no universe where the same store my mom used to drag me into in middle school had suddenly become 2026’s fashion It Girl’s go-to.
But what I assumed would be a fleeting moment didn’t fade. It stuck. Suddenly, Gap is everywhere—my roommates’ weekend hauls, TikTok, Hailey Bieber’s street style rotation. And with Zac Posen steering the rebrand, Gap’s pieces look (and feel) just as good as designer ones. Nope, this isn’t a blip. It’s a full comeback—and might I say it’s better than ever.
So what’s the secret behind the shift? It comes down to a few things—the quality, the design direction under Posen, and a collection of pieces that look way more expensive than they are. Here’s what’s making it work.
The quality of their products is impressive
The pieces I’ve tried so far feel elevated, especially for the price. The fabrics are insanely soft, the fits are sharp, and nothing feels like it’ll fall apart after one wash. And I’m not the only one noticing! Friends, fellow editors, and half of TikTok keep saying the same thing. Whatever Gap is doing differently right now, you can feel it the second you pick something up.
Their sweatsets are worth the hype
One of the things the brand is really killing it with these days has to be their sweat sets. I’m talking about the viral VintageSoft Baggy Sweatpants and the matching VintageSoft Wedge Zip Hoodie that have totally taken over the internet. Seriously, I can’t even count how many videos I’ve seen on my feed raving about how insanely soft and cozy they are. There are also countless color options, from neutrals to bright, fun colors. Plus, the hoodie and pants work perfectly as separates too, making them super easy to mix and match.
The designer dupes are on point and really affordable
Gap has been really nailing that clean, minimalist look lately—which is great news for any The Row fans! Their inventory is in line with what people want right now: elevated basics that do exactly what those ultra-luxe minimal designer staples do, just way more affordable.
The TikTok viral stuff actually delivers
If your algorithm looks anything like mine, you’ve probably seen the Gap trousers and knits in every other TikTok—and I’m here to say they’re genuinely worth the attention. I assumed it might be some kind of spon-con situation, but no! The low-rise brushed trousers are that rare perfect pant: polished enough for an office outfit, yet easy and cool enough for a nighttime outing with friends. Gap is also getting buzz for its sweaters. They feel like they should cost three times the price with how cozy and well-made they are.
Celebrities are cosigning Gap, too
When Hailey Bieber was spotted in low-rise Gap denim last year, it made the news cycle for how affordable and chic her jeans were. The Low-Rise ‘90s Loose Jeans have that easy, laid-back fit that’s been trending, and at under $100, the fact that they’re somehow still in stock is kind of a miracle. But she’s not the only one—Gap keeps popping up in celebrity street style, which says a lot about where the brand sits right now.
Truly, Gap’s entire denim collection is really strong right now. There’s a solid range of styles to choose from, in a variety of different washes and colors, and most of them come in multiple length options (Regular, Tall, and Petite), which is a lifesaver if you’re under 5 feet and constantly battling jeans that drag on the floor.
