Greece has completed the automated assignment of personal identification numbers to citizens who had not obtained one by the November 5 deadline for selecting its first two digits, the Ministry of Digital Governance announced.
The General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance automatically assigned numbers to 6,602,827 citizens, bringing the total issued since the reform launched on June 3 to 9,311,529.
Citizens are being notified gradually through email, the “Citizen’s Inbox” on gov.gr and alerts in the Gov.gr Wallet. The ministry stressed that the notification is solely informational and requires no confirmation from users.
For security reasons, the number itself is not included in the message. The personal number can be viewed at any time through the online platform pa.gov.gr using TaxisNet credentials, or within the Gov.gr Wallet. The automated assignment continues daily for adults and minors as soon as they receive a tax identification number. Once assigned, users are directed to the myInfo application to verify their personal details and correct inaccuracies in public records.
So far, 963,419 discrepancies between data in separate state registries have been identified and are being processed to improve data accuracy.
Citizens with a tax number who have not yet received a personal number must first resolve inconsistencies in their official records.
The personal number is required for the new police ID card, 647,643 of which already include it. It will serve as a unique identifier for transactions with public services.
