The Greek cruise market continues to grow, maintaining high demand and steady expansion, according to data presented at a press conference on Wednesday.
Andreas Stylianopoulos, president of Navigator Travel and Tourism Services and exclusive Royal Caribbean International representative in Greece and Bulgaria, reported that demand rose by up to 10% despite the introduction of cruise taxes. He confirmed that the cruise sector remains a key component of Greece’s tourism product.
Stylianopoulos noted that a growing proportion of passengers choosing cruises from Greece are domestic travellers, with more opting to start their journeys from Piraeus. This trend reinforces the country’s strong home demand, while cruise operations stimulate the local economy through procurement, transport, and supporting services.
Brilliance of the Seas Returns to Piraeus
Royal Caribbean will again use Greece as a homeport, with Brilliance of the Seas departing from Piraeus four times during summer 2026. These seven-day cruises will call at popular Greek destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, and Rhodes, and important Eastern Mediterranean ports including Ephesus, Bodrum, Istanbul, and Limassol.
The Radiance-class ship spans 293 metres, has 13 decks, and accommodates 2,142 passengers while providing high standards of comfort and hospitality.
Legend of the Seas Arrives in Europe
The company will also introduce Legend of the Seas, an Icon-class ship, to the European market for the first time in 2026. Considered the largest cruise ship globally, its deployment will strengthen cruise activity across the region.
Younger Audience and Upgraded Hospitality
Stylianopoulos highlighted that modern cruise investments focus on hospitality, offering upgraded facilities and enhanced onboard experiences. These improvements have attracted younger passengers while retaining Royal Caribbean’s core American clientele.
Royal Beach Club Santorini
In 2026, Royal Caribbean will open its first European Royal Beach Club in Santorini. Part of the “Ultimate Destinations” strategy, the club aims to elevate the destination experience by combining the island’s unique landscape with high-quality beach services.
