Greece will double its participation in European Space Agency (ESA) research and development programs to more than €66 million every three years, Digital Governance and AI Minister Dimitris Papastergiou has said at the ESA Ministerial Council in Bremen, Germany.
“Space is no longer distant. It shapes our security, it drives innovation, it supports daily life. It is a strategic priority for Europe and an investment in resilience, innovation and long-term prosperity for Greece,” Papastergiou said.
The ministry said the increased funding will allow Greece to join larger projects, retain skilled staff, support domestic technologies and create new opportunities for Greek businesses. Papastergiou added the government will continue investing in commercial space programs, satellite observation, telecommunications, space robotics and preparing for a future Greek astronaut mission.
“Greece is changing, and it is doing so with confidence. We invest with a plan and look to the future with optimism. Space brings the future closer, and Greece is ready to help shape that future for our citizens and for Europe,” he said. [AMNA]
